1055 dead lie here in individual graves. The people who died in the bombing raid on Stralsund on October 6, 1944 were the first to be buried here. In the 1970s, a memorial grove was created to commemorate the victims of the 1944 bombing raid. This has been a recognized war cemetery since the late 1990s.
