Total Occupation: 20 fatalities

According to the information available to us, a total of 20 victims of the Second World War and tyranny are buried in this cemetery. On entering the Oldenburg - Donnerschwee municipal cemetery, visitors immediately notice 15 stone crosses in front of the cemetery chapel. These are mainly graves of children who died in air raids in April 1945. On April 17 and 18, 1945, Oldenburg is also included in the frontline area. Allied planes dropped their bombs on residential areas. Shortly before midday on April 17, a low-flying aircraft attacks a group of children playing unsuspectingly in a kindergarten. 13 children and 2 adults die. Many others, including the kindergarten teacher, were seriously wounded. On April 20, 21 and 23, the children were buried in the cemetery in Oldenburg - Donnerschwee. Photos: Marco Wingert 2012
