Total Occupation: 4.200 fatalities
The three merging war cemeteries in sections 14, 18 and 19 of Hanover's largest city cemetery are the resting places of - 456 German soldiers of both world wars who died in military hospitals and in air raids, - 1304 Hanoverian citizens, victims of the heavy air raids on Hanover, - 1581 civilian citizens and prisoners of war from 19 nations who died as a result of inhumane forced labor conditions or air raids, - 291 concentration camp victims of the Stöcken, Ahlem, Misburg and Limmer concentration camps from 1944/45 - 38 victims who died in the Hanover-Ahlem Gestapo prison - 279 children of forced laborers who died in the Godshorn maternity home. The exact number of deaths can probably no longer be determined today. The Volksbund Niedersachsen has erected a history and memorial plaque near the old main entrance to the memorial for the concentration camp victims. To the right of the German war graves is one of two Dutch war cemeteries in Lower Saxony. Photos: Volker Fleig 2011
