Dachau Waldfriedhof

The concentration camp was built in 1933 for 5,000 prisoners, but by the end of the war around 30,000 people were crammed in here. Initially, political prisoners were imprisoned, but also clergy and believers of all denominations. Later, Sinti and Roma were added, Jews from November 9, 1938 (Kristallnacht) and foreigners from more than 30 nations during the war. Of the more than 200,000 prisoners who were imprisoned in Dachau, 31,951 were registered as murdered, although the exact number cannot be determined. Dachau was liberated by the Americans on 29.04.1945. The "Todesangst- Christi- Kapelle" was consecrated on August 5, 1960 and the Carmelite convent was consecrated on November 22, 1964 by Auxiliary Bishop Neuhäusler (himself a Dachau prisoner).
