Those killed in the battles near Bertrix on August 22, 1914 were buried in the Heidefriedhof and Waldfriedhof cemeteries from 1916 to 1917.
The forest cemetery was closed during the Second World War.
After reburials, the Volksbund enlarged the Heidefriedhof in 1957. There are now 254 German and 264 French soldiers from the First World War buried here.
