The German war cemetery, established by the Wehrmacht in 1940, is part of the municipal cemetery, which is located above the Rombakken fjord on the ore railroad coming from Sweden. As a later extension was not possible, the German soldiers buried by the Wehrmacht north of Narvik up to the Russian border were transferred to the Botn-Rognan military cemetery south of Fauske.
From a bastion erected in a semicircle at the lower edge of the cemetery, on which a monolithic cross made of natural stone stands, you have a wide view of the town and fjord. The site was inaugurated on 25 August 1960. 1,474 German soldiers who died in the Second World War rest here today. The Volksbund Landesverband Schleswig-Holstein is the sponsor of this cemetery.
